Nutrition For Kids In The Time Of Covid

Kids’ nutrition has become an important topic of discussion since the deadly virus made its entry into our lives. They now have easier access to unhealthy food and excessive snacking thus causing dietary problems. Hence it is necessary to feed them well during these times.

We have been confined to our homes since the pandemic struck us to contain the virus spread. But this has also raised the possibility of families falling out of their routines. Relaxed schedules can lead to weight gain and unhealthy eating habits. So how do you ensure your kid eats healthy?
The internet is full of information about providing good nutrition to your kids. With so much information available it is only natural to get confused. Hence we list down a few ways to simplify the confusion so you can do what’s best for your
child.

1. Encourage Healthy Snacking

Kids always crave things to eat throughout the day. Hence, you must encourage healthy snacking that will boost their nutrition as well as manage their hunger. For instance you can feed them nuts, trail mix, yogurt, fresh fruits, eggs, oat cookies, vegetable chips, nut butter, yummy fruit popsicles, and of course sandwiches. Here are some examples of healthy sandwich combinations you could try once in a while:

  • Thinly sliced apples and cheddar cheese
  • Tomato slices and mozzarella cheese
  • Peanut butter and sliced banana pieces
  • Chicken, cheese, and pickles
  • Ricotta cheese mixed with finely chopped veggies
  • Hard-boiled eggs, tomato and avocado

2. Always Keep Hydrated

Be it through fancy smoothies, basic milkshakes, fresh fruit juices, or the good old chocolate milk, make sure your child is always hydrated.

3. Provide Regular Meals With A Variety Of Foods

Set a daily mealtime for your kids. This way they will feel hungry at around the same time every day and make things a lot easier for you. Make sure to not skip any meal as this will deeply affect their functioning throughout the day. Make sure your child gets accustomed to eating a variety of different foods and not just something that they are familiar with. This will make sure that the child becomes familiar and open to new tastes, textures, and smells. This will also ensure that the child has more than enough nutritional intake that is necessary for their growth; mentally, physically as well as emotionally.
The most important thing is to be safe and healthy and understand that prevention is very necessary to eliminate any risk of the virus. Keeping our immunity high is the best way to do that.
